Coinbase Enters Prediction Market Space with New Feature
Coinbase has entered the prediction market space with its new feature, Coinbase Prediction Markets. As one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, Coinbase has a proven track record with over 115 million global users and $370 billion in assets under management.
The platform allows users to trade binary event contracts on real-world events across various categories, including sports, cryptocurrency, entertainment, elections, politics, economics, weather, science and tech, and companies. The minimum age requirement is 18 years old, or 21 depending on the region.
Each contract ranges from $0.01 to $0.99, reflecting the market's perceived probability of an outcome occurring. For example, a Yes contract for Mitch McConnell resigning before the US midterms has a price of $0.32, indicating a 32% chance of him resigning.
The platform is regulated by the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and is a member of the National Futures Association (NFA), providing a safe environment for users to trade prediction markets.
