Coinbase Expands Derivatives Push Amid Pending US Regulatory Changes
Coinbase is expanding its derivatives offerings in the US market, moving deeper into perpetual futures and options as it builds out its 'Everything Exchange' strategy.
The company closed its $2.9 billion acquisition of Deribit in August 2025, consolidating spot, options, futures, and perpetuals under a single platform listed on US exchanges.
Coinbase has already started rolling out nano-BTC and ETH contracts for U.S. customers with perpetual-style futures, which account for about 78% of derivatives volume in 2025, according to CryptoQuant data.
The regulatory environment is a key factor in Coinbase's expansion plans, as the CLARITY Act passed the House in July 2025 but faces Senate delays and could formalize CFTC oversight over most tokens and expand the US derivatives market.
