Coinbase Expands in Singapore with Roundtable Discussion and Hiring Plans
Coinbase's CEO Brian Armstrong recently hosted a roundtable discussion in Singapore with developers building on the company's Ethereum Layer-2 network, Base. The meeting was part of Coinbase's push to establish its operational nerve center for the Asia-Pacific region.
The discussion focused on project pitches and direct feedback from Armstrong to the developers. Base has processed over 100 million transactions since its launch in February 2023. It is a cornerstone of Coinbase's strategy around active payments and AI-agent finance, which involves autonomous software agents handling financial transactions for users.
Coinbase has committed to hiring approximately 200 employees at its Singapore engineering office by the end of 2026. The company received in-principle approval for a major payments institution licence from the Monetary Authority of Singapore just days after the roundtable. This licence will allow Coinbase to offer regulated digital payment token services in the country.
Coinbase is also organizing a $150,000 live trading competition on October 8, 2026, to spotlight the wallet and Base ecosystem.
