Coinbase Expands into Regulated Derivatives Market with Canadian Launch
Coinbase Global has expanded its presence in Canada by launching regulated derivatives, marking a significant step towards becoming a comprehensive financial platform.
The company's subsidiary, Coinbase Financial Markets, now offers direct access to native crypto futures in Canada, with 23 perpetual and dated futures linked to popular assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. The offering also includes five commodity futures covering gold, silver, oil, and index futures such as COIN50.
The launch is strategically significant, given that derivatives account for a substantial share of global crypto trading, with Coinbase estimating that crypto-derivatives volume is approximately 4.4 times that of the spot market.
