Coinbase Expands Stablecoin Reach with Community Bank Partnerships
Coinbase has partnered with payments infrastructure firm Moov to embed stablecoin acceptance and settlement into systems used by over 1,000 US community banks and credit unions. The deal aims to counter concerns that stablecoins will pull deposits away from small local banks.
The partnership leverages Moov's existing connections with these institutions to offer a regulated infrastructure for stablecoin use. This move is particularly timely as the Senate prepares to vote on the CLARITY Act, which seeks to clarify market structure laws for crypto assets.
Community banking groups have expressed concerns that payment stablecoins could divert deposits away from local banks and into larger technology firms or crypto platforms. In response, Coinbase and Moov are positioning community banks as the channel for stablecoin services rather than the victim.
