Coinbase Expands Wrapped Token Roster with cbMEGA Launch on Base

Coinbase has added cbMEGA to its Base Layer 2 ecosystem. The new wrapped token, backed by MEGA (MEGA) held in Coinbase custody, allows users to access decentralized finance without leaving the platform.

The process of converting MEGA to cbMEGA is straightforward: users send eligible MEGA to Base, where it auto-converts at a 1:1 ratio. To retrieve the original MEGA, users can unwrap cbMEGA and regain their assets. The underlying MEGA remains in Coinbase custody throughout.

CbMEGA's arrival on Base comes with pre-existing integrations across several DeFi platforms, including Aerodrome, 1inch, CoW Swap, and Rainbow wallet. This suggests a strategic effort by Coinbase to expand the utility of wrapped tokens within its ecosystem.
