Coinbase Fires Back at WSJ Critique of CLARITY Act
Coinbase's Chief Policy Officer, Faryar Shirzad, has fired back at a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) editorial criticizing the CLARITY Act, a proposed US stablecoin and digital asset regulatory framework.
The bill aims to provide legal clarity for businesses and consumers in the crypto market by establishing a federal framework to replace the current patchwork of state regulations.
Shirzad argued that the WSJ editorial relied on banking-sector talking points, misrepresenting key aspects of the legislation, particularly regarding stablecoin rewards and DeFi liability.
The CLARITY Act would allow stablecoin holders to earn rewards, but with restrictions tied directly to user activity, ensuring they are not speculative or yield-bearing in a way that would compete unfairly with bank deposits.
