Coinbase Introduces Slack Micropayments for Instant User Inquiries

Share

Coinbase has introduced a new feature that allows its users to make micropayments within Slack channels. This innovation enables AI agents and employees to ask questions and receive paid responses without leaving the chat window.

The bot uses Coinbase's Developer Platform and plugs into Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Payments, which reached general availability in August 2026. The x402 protocol is used for transactions, settling them in roughly 200 milliseconds on Base, with costs running at fractions of a cent per transaction.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong highlighted the feature's potential to enhance communication efficiency and streamline how users access information and paid services. He emphasized that removing payment friction from the equation makes information access more efficient overall.
