Coinbase Joins X as Launch Partner for Cashtags Trading Feature
Coinbase has partnered with X as a launch partner for its Cashtags trading feature. This collaboration enables users to trade crypto and other assets directly from the social media platform. When X users tap on a $TICKER symbol in their feed, they can be routed straight to Coinbase to execute a trade.
X rolled out Cashtags in mid-April 2026 for iOS users in the US and Canada. The feature recognizes $TICKER symbols and smart contract addresses embedded in posts, then surfaces live price charts, relevant posts from other users, and asset-matching data directly within the timeline.
Cashtags does not execute trades itself; instead, it functions as a referral layer, routing users to partner platforms like Coinbase where the actual buying and selling happens. Wealthsimple, a Canadian fintech firm, served as the original pilot partner when Cashtags first launched, reportedly driving $1 billion in trading volume within 48 hours of going live.
Nikita Bier, X's Head of Product, views Cashtags as a step toward making the platform a top destination for finance and crypto communities. This partnership fits into Elon Musk's vision for X as an 'everything app,' handling messaging, media, payments, and now brokerage referrals under a single roof.
