Coinbase Launches Auction Mode for USDC-BRL Trading Pair
Coinbase Markets has launched an auction mode for its USDC-BRL trading pair to facilitate controlled price-discovery. This process is a standard procedure used by the exchange when introducing new pairs, allowing traders to place limit orders while preventing actual transactions until a closing price is established.
During the 10-minute auction window, only limit orders are accepted, and market orders are not allowed. The system displays an indicative opening price, giving participants insight into where the market might settle without any orders actually being filled yet.
All iceberg orders and certain bracket orders are canceled when the pair transitions to auction mode. Once the minimum 10-minute window closes and the auction price is set, matched orders execute at that single clearing price. Afterward, the pair moves into normal continuous trading, where bids and asks match in real-time.
