Coinbase Launches Prediction Market for Baseball Fans
Coinbase has introduced a new prediction market for baseball fans to bet on the outcome of a future sports event. The Yomiuri Giants will face off against the Yokohama DeNA BayStars in a match with an uncertain total number of runs scored.
The prediction market, accessible through Coinbase's platform, allows users to buy and sell contracts based on their predictions for the game's outcome. Users can purchase 'Yes' or 'No' contracts, with each contract priced at $0.65. This price reflects a 65% chance that the event will happen.
For those who believe the Yomiuri Giants will score more runs than the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, they can buy 'Yes' contracts. Conversely, users who think the BayStars will outperform the Giants can purchase 'No' contracts. If the event occurs as predicted, users who bought the correct contract type will receive a payout of $1 per contract.
The market is subject to certain trading prohibitions, including restrictions on current and former players, coaches, and staff of the league, association, or organization governing the event. Additionally, paid employees of the league and league participants, owners of teams and the league, and their household members and immediate family are prohibited from trading.
