Coinbase Launches Regulated Crypto Derivatives in Canadian Markets
Coinbase has launched regulated crypto derivatives in Canada for the first time. The platform now offers Canadian investors access to perpetual and dated futures of major cryptocurrencies. According to Coinbase Institutional, the new offering provides access to 23 crypto perpetual futures.
The products will be available through Coinbase Financial Markets (CFM) and include a range of trading pairs, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and more. Perpetual futures allow traders to maintain positions without the conventional expiration associated with dated futures.
Coinbase said the products are designed to provide Canadian investors with tools for speculation and hedging. The exchange noted that Canadian traders have historically had to rely on offshore or unregulated platforms to access certain crypto derivatives.
The offering also includes up to 10x leverage, according to Coinbase Institutional. Leverage can increase the size of a trader position relative to the margin posted, but it can also amplify potential losses.
