Coinbase Launches Tokenisation Hub in Abu Dhabi with Regulatory Approval

Share

Coinbase has received regulatory approval from Abu Dhabi's Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) to establish its international tokenisation hub in the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM).

The license allows Coinbase to arrange deals in investments and provide custody, enabling the issuance and holding of tokenised securities backed by real shares.

The tokens will be registered and issued inside ADGM, fully backed by the underlying shares under FSRA supervision. Verified holders will receive shareholder rights, including dividends automatically reinvested and voting, subject to vesting conditions in each security's prospectus.

To buy, sell, or transfer the tokens, no brokerage account is required, only a crypto wallet. However, converting tokens back into underlying shares or their cash equivalent still requires a qualifying brokerage or bank account.
