Coinbase Launches Tokenization Hub in Abu Dhabi
Coinbase has established its tokenization hub in Abu Dhabi, with permission from the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) to arrange deals in investments and provide custody. This license is a significant step towards building infrastructure for a more open and accessible global financial system.
The FSRA's Financial Services Permission (FSP) gives Coinbase the regulatory foundation to launch its international tokenization hub in ADGM, the international financial centre of Abu Dhabi. Tokenized securities registered and issued in ADGM are fully backed by underlying shares under the supervision of the FSRA and verified token holders receive full shareholder rights.
Coinbase's Co-CEO Brett Tejpaul said that ADGM's regulatory framework is a strong endorsement of Abu Dhabi's growing role in shaping the future of global finance. He noted that no major financial centre has yet built a framework that treats tokenized equities simultaneously as securities, blockchain-native tokens, and DeFi-composable assets.
The launch of Coinbase's international tokenization hub is part of a broader commitment to the UAE. The company is establishing two ambitious global businesses outside the United States: a hub for tokenized securities and on-chain capital markets, and a global hub for derivatives.
