Coinbase Leadership Shift: Four Executives Exit or Change Roles Amid Expansion
Coinbase, a leading cryptocurrency exchange and trading platform, is undergoing significant leadership changes. Four senior executives have either departed or shifted roles in recent weeks, as the company continues to expand into stocks and prediction markets.
According to an SEC filing, Chief People Officer Lawrence Brock will leave his position on August 31 and move to an advisory role from September 2 through November 30, 2026. During this time, he will receive a lump-sum payment of $182,500 within 10 business days of the term's end. Any unvested equity awards held by Brock will be forfeited upon completion of his advisory term.
Greg Tusar, co-head of Coinbase Institutional, is shifting to a new role focused on policy, according to an anonymous source. This move comes after news that Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal was planning to leave for a startup but would remain as an adviser through October 31. Jesse Pollak, who led the Base app, has stepped back from his position due to earlier strategy missteps with creator coins.
Coinbase is cutting costs and transitioning into what it calls an 'everything exchange', covering crypto, stocks, and prediction markets, amidst a broader cooling in the cryptocurrency market. The company recently laid off about 14% of its staff in May and is promoting from within to fill vacant leadership roles.
