Coinbase Logs Third Straight Quarterly Loss Amid Crypto Market Downturn

Share

Coinbase Global, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges, has reported its third consecutive quarterly loss due to a prolonged downturn in crypto markets. The company's shares dropped by 5.3% after the bell following the release of its quarterly earnings report.

The decline in crypto trading volumes was largely attributed to investor uncertainty over US interest rates, geopolitical tensions, and persistent outflows from crypto investment products. As a result, Coinbase's transaction revenue fell by 21% to $599 million during the April-to-June quarter, down from $764 million a year earlier.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong expressed optimism about the upcoming Clarity Act, which aims to provide regulatory clarity for digital-asset trading platforms. The revised version of the legislation was released by Senate Republicans last week, and Armstrong stated that he is 'pretty optimistic' it will get to a full Senate floor vote.
