Coinbase Misses Expectations for Third Straight Quarter Amid Ongoing Crypto Winter
Coinbase's second-quarter results missed expectations for the third consecutive quarter. The company reported revenue of $1.2 billion, down 19% year-over-year and 14% sequentially. This decline in revenue was driven by a 21% drop in trading revenue to $599 million and a 5% decrease in subscription and services revenue to $555 million.
The net loss for the quarter was $359.5 million, or a loss of $1.36 per share, compared to a consensus expectation of a $0.17 per-share loss. This marks the third consecutive quarter that Coinbase's earnings have fallen short of market expectations.
CEO Brian Armstrong emphasized the company's ability to remain competitive in the crypto trading space, citing a record-high market share for the quarter. However, the results highlight the ongoing effects of the 'crypto winter' on the industry.
