Coinbase Names Rob Witoff as New Chief Technology Officer
Coinbase has appointed Rob Witoff as its new chief technology officer (CTO), a move that CEO Brian Armstrong says will help the company continue to grow and innovate in the AI space.
Witoff has been with Coinbase since 2014, initially joining as an engineer after being fascinated by Bitcoin in 2009. He left the company briefly but returned in December 2024 as Head of Platform, a role that made him a member of the executive team. Prior to his return, he had founded and sold security startup Unit 410, which Coinbase acquired.
Armstrong praised Witoff's contributions to Coinbase's growth, saying that under his leadership, the company has become one of the most AI-enabled companies in the world. As CTO, Witoff will be responsible for making Coinbase 'the best place in the world to build.'
