Coinbase One Members Can Now Use Crypto as Collateral for Mortgages

Share

Better Mortgage and Coinbase have expanded their crypto-backed mortgage offering to include Coinbase One members. This move allows borrowers to use digital assets as collateral without selling them, making it easier for people to fund a home purchase.

The product was first unveiled in March and has seen significant interest with over $260 million in projected loan volume identified through a waitlist opened in June. Among respondents, 76% were already Coinbase One members and 60% said they planned to buy a home within the next six months.

Ziggy Jonsson, Better Mortgage's chief technology officer, stated that the program offers a new path to homeownership for those who keep a large share of their assets on-chain by allowing Coinbase One members to post crypto holdings as collateral instead of selling them.
