Coinbase Partners with Moov to Bring Stablecoin Payments to Thousands of Community Banks
Coinbase is partnering with Moov to bring stablecoins to over 1,000 community banks and credit unions in the US. This move aims to make it easier for these financial institutions to accept stablecoin payments and settlements without having to build their own blockchains.
Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies pegged to a stable fiat currency, such as the US dollar or euro, and can be held without a bank account. They offer faster, cheaper money transfers than traditional currencies and can be used to earn higher yields in third-party lending platforms and liquidity pools.
Coinbase already generates nearly a quarter of its revenue from stablecoin reserves, and this partnership is expected to boost that figure further. The company's revenue growth partly offsets the volatility of its other cryptocurrency trading fees.
The Senate is set to hold a key procedural vote on the CLARITY Act on September 15, which aims to establish a clearer federal framework for regulating digital assets. If passed, this could pave the way for more institutional investors to buy cryptocurrencies and drive up Coinbase's trading revenue.
