Coinbase Premium Hits Record Low as US Investor Appetite for Bitcoin Wanes
The Coinbase Bitcoin premium index has remained negative for an unprecedented 86 consecutive days, surpassing its previous record by more than double. According to data from CoinGlass, the metric stood at -0.1027% as of August 12.
A negative premium indicates that Bitcoin is trading at a lower price on Coinbase compared to other platforms, often pointing to weaker buying pressure from U.S. investors. This prolonged period has historically coincided with slower institutional demand and reduced spot market activity from American buyers.
Market analysts view the duration of this streak as a significant signal, suggesting that U.S. investors have been net sellers or less aggressive buyers relative to their global counterparts. The current trend is notable given the mixed macroeconomic signals and fluctuating Bitcoin prices.
