Coinbase Premium Streak Hits Record 76 Days as Capital Shifts to Tokenized Perps
Bitcoin's Coinbase Premium Index has been in negative territory for an unprecedented 76 consecutive days since May 19. This record-breaking streak is nearly double the previous high of 40 days, set between January 16 and February 24 this year.
The index, which tracks the difference between Bitcoin's price on Coinbase (COIN) and the global average, has been a barometer of US institutional demand since its inception. A negative reading suggests that Bitcoin was trading at a discount on Coinbase compared to other major exchanges, indicating weaker demand from US investors.
ETF flows confirm this trend, with spot Bitcoin ETFs experiencing net outflows of $265.37 million on Friday and $61.53 million for the week. In contrast, Ethereum spot ETFs saw modest inflows of $9.03 million on the day and $27.42 million for the week.
Meanwhile, crypto exchanges are seeing explosive growth in perpetual futures tied to traditional financial assets, with $1.32 trillion processed in the first five months of 2026, a 12-fold increase from all of 2025. This trend is being driven by institutional capital shifting towards tokenized TradFi perpetual futures.
