Coinbase Pursues Onshore Launch of Stock Perpetual Trading with SEC Filings

Share

Coinbase is on the cusp of launching single-stock perpetual trading in the United States. To bring this product to market, the company has filed two notices with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for approval of its derivatives exchange and broker.

These products have already been available to offshore users, but now Coinbase is looking to bring them onshore. The filings mark the first regulatory step toward offering equity perpetual futures for US investors.

Coinbase classifies this product as 'security futures' under existing law. If approved by the SEC, the two filings would allow US citizens to trade stock perpetuals with leverage and no expiration date - a product that has powered crypto derivatives for years but now targets stocks.
