Coinbase Pushes Back Against Warren's CLARITY Act Concerns
Coinbase's Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad has pushed back against Senator Elizabeth Warren's concerns that the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (CLARITY Act) would compromise U.S. national security.
Shirzad argued that regulatory uncertainty is what leaves our financial system vulnerable, allowing bad actors to thrive in the shadows.
He said the CLARITY Act would require crypto platforms to follow the same national security standards as traditional banks and give agencies like Treasury and FinCEN stronger tools to intercept sanctions evasion.
The disagreement comes amid growing scrutiny of Iran's use of cryptocurrencies and stablecoins to bypass U.S. sanctions, with Chainalysis estimating Iran's crypto economy reached roughly $7.78 billion in 2025.
