Coinbase Revives Wallet Brand Amid APAC Expansion Plans
Coinbase is expanding its presence in Singapore as it seeks to increase trading participation and access through its wallet product. The company has restored the Coinbase Wallet brand after a year operating under the name Base App, which was designed to combine trading with social features.
The rebranding comes as Coinbase targets multichain markets, including perpetual futures, prediction markets, and tokenized stocks. The wallet now supports more than 10 blockchain networks, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Avalanche, and offers derivatives through integrations like Hyperliquid.
Coinbase's Singapore office is playing a key role in the company's expansion plans. Armstrong has stated that Singapore will continue to be an important hub for Coinbase's APAC operations, with engineering, regulatory engagement, and client development all taking place from this location.
The company is also hosting its first in-person esports-style trading competition on October 8 in Singapore, with a $150,000 prize pool. This event aims to attract active traders and engage them through a live streaming format, which will provide an early indication of whether Coinbase can successfully turn trading into an audience product.
Coinbase's move towards multichain trading and self-custody allows users to access on-chain markets directly while retaining control over their assets. This approach is seen as a competitive challenge to centralized exchanges and presents opportunities for growth in the APAC region.
