Coinbase Seeks CFTC Nod for Equity Perpetuals Expansion
Coinbase is expanding its derivatives offerings in the US market by seeking regulatory approval to launch equity perpetuals.
The cryptocurrency exchange has filed registration documents with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which will allow it to offer perpetual contracts that track the price of an underlying asset without expiration dates.
Coinbase Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad announced the filing on social media, highlighting the growing demand for perpetuals in international markets.
The product will require approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) before it can be offered to US investors. Coinbase has already received CFTC clearance to offer perpetual crypto futures earlier this year, alongside prediction-markets platform Kalshi.
