Coinbase Seeks SEC Approval for 24/7 Stock Perpetuals
Coinbase has filed a notice with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to list 24/7 equity perpetual futures in the United States. This move marks an expansion of Coinbase's offerings beyond cryptocurrency derivatives, into products linked to major U.S. stocks.
The exchange already offers equity perpetuals internationally, but would need approval from both the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) before launching them domestically.
Coinbase Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad noted that equity perps have proven popular internationally, and the company is 'excited at the prospect of a regulated pathway for U.S. investors.' The proposal would allow traders to access stock-linked derivatives around the clock, rather than being limited to regular market hours.
