Coinbase Seeks SEC Approval for Equity Perpetual Contracts
Coinbase has filed a notice registration document with the SEC to offer equity perpetual contracts on its exchange.
The move aims to provide U.S. investors with a regulated pathway for trading these contracts, according to Faryar Shirzad, Coinbase's Chief Policy Officer.
Equity perpetuals are futures-style contracts without expiration dates that allow traders to speculate on asset prices without direct ownership.
Coinbase must obtain CFTC authorization before launching the product, which has been a trend in the industry with other platforms like Hyperliquid pursuing U.S. market entry through partnerships and reported arrangements.
