Coinbase Seeks SEC Approval for Equity Perpetuals in US Market
Coinbase has taken another step towards expanding its offerings in the US by filing for SEC approval to offer equity perpetuals. The crypto exchange's Chief Policy Officer, Faryar Shirzad, announced this development on social media platform X.
Equity perpetuals are derivative contracts that track underlying assets without an expiration date, allowing traders to hold positions indefinitely. This product will require a Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) approval next, as stated by Shirzad in his post.
Coinbase is already familiar with offering perpetual crypto futures, having received CFTC approval alongside prediction markets platform Kalshi earlier this year. The company's Chief Policy Officer emphasized the potential for a regulated pathway for US investors, citing international demand for equity perps.
