Coinbase Seeks SEC Approval for Leveraged Stock Bets
Coinbase is taking steps to bring leveraged stock bets to US investors, filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to offer single-stock perpetual futures. This move is part of a broader effort to bring the crypto trading playbook onshore, as digital-asset venues expand beyond cryptocurrency itself.
According to Coinbase's post on X, the company hopes to bring this product to the US market later this year after working with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for approvals. The firm has already started offering single-stock perps to international customers earlier this year.
Coinbase is not alone in this effort; CME Group launched single-stock futures across more than 50 top US stocks in July. This development could potentially bring regulated access to stock-linked contracts, which have been a key factor in the growth of offshore venues such as Hyperliquid.
