Coinbase Seeks SEC Approval for Leveraged Stock Bets in US Market
Coinbase is taking steps to bring leveraged stock bets to US investors without them needing to own the underlying stocks. The company filed a request with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to offer single-stock perpetual futures, which don't have an expiration date. This move is part of a broader effort by Coinbase to expand beyond traditional spot crypto trading.
The push for leveraged stock bets comes as digital-asset venues are expanding beyond crypto itself. Other companies, such as Kalshi Inc., are also seeking to bring similar contracts tied to equity indexes and other traditional markets to the US market.
Coinbase hopes to bring this product to the US market by the end of the year. The company has already offered single-stock perpetual futures to international customers since earlier this year.
