Coinbase Seeks SEC Approval for Perpetual Futures on Individual US Stocks
Coinbase is seeking to expand its offerings in the US market by listing perpetual futures on individual stocks. The company has filed notice registrations with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and plans to obtain approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). This would enable US customers to trade perpetual futures on single stock names, such as Apple and Nvidia, around the clock without owning shares or rolling contracts forward.
According to Coinbase's Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad, the filing is the first step in a two-agency process. The company has already launched single-stock perpetuals for non-US customers in March, covering names including Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Amazon.
The move would compete with listed options and offshore venues where volume currently sits. Kalshi, another platform, has reportedly filed with the CFTC to list equity index perpetuals, pushing it into closer competition with incumbent exchanges.
