Coinbase Seeks SEC Approval for Stock Perpetual Futures in U.S. Market Expansion
Coinbase is pushing forward with its derivatives business by filing registration documents with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to offer perpetual futures on single stocks in the United States.
The company, which has already launched perpetual futures trading overseas, is seeking to bring this product to U.S.-based investors, enabling them to take leveraged long or short positions without directly holding the stock.
Coinbase's chief policy officer, Faryar Shirzad, expressed optimism about a regulated pathway for U.S. investors, citing proven demand overseas for stock perpetual futures.
The company is also coordinating with the CFTC to bring major financial products to the U.S. market and has set its sights on obtaining CFTC approval as the next step.
