Coinbase Sees Four Senior Executives Exit Amidst Leadership Shakeup
Coinbase is undergoing its biggest leadership shakeup in years with four senior executives either departing or moving to new roles. This comes as the exchange continues to expand into stocks and prediction markets, having already laid off about 14% of its staff in May.
Chief People Officer Lawrence Brock will leave the company for an advisory role from September 2 through November 30, 2026. During this time, he'll receive a lump-sum payment of $182,500 within 10 business days of the end of the term and forfeit any unvested equity awards.
Greg Tusar, co-head of Coinbase Institutional, is shifting to a new policy-focused role. This move follows news that Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal was planning to leave for a startup but would remain an adviser through October. Jesse Pollak also stepped back from leading the Base app after his strategy of creator coins didn't pan out.
Coinbase is filling vacant leadership roles with internal promotions as it cuts costs and transitions from a crypto-only trading platform into what it calls an 'everything exchange.' The company's restructuring comes amidst anticipation for the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which could see a full Senate floor vote in a few weeks.
