Coinbase Sets Sights on Abu Dhabi for Tokenization Push
Coinbase, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has established its global tokenized asset hub in Abu Dhabi. This move allows Coinbase to operate under the regulatory umbrella of the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) of Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM).
The company has received permission to arrange investment deals and provide custody for tokenized securities. This means that Coinbase will be able to offer digital securities backed by underlying shares, which will be registered and issued in ADGM under FSRA oversight.
Coinbase's co-CEO, Brett Tejpaul, noted that no major financial center has yet built a framework that treats tokenized equities as both securities and blockchain-native tokens. This move positions Abu Dhabi as a key testing ground for the tokenization movement in traditional finance.
