Coinbase Shares Slide Despite Record Market Share Gains
Coinbase shares fell 7% in after-hours trading despite reporting record gains in market share and notable growth in its prediction market segment.
The company recorded a record 10.3% of global cryptocurrency trading volume during the second quarter of 2026, surpassing the previous quarter's 9.1%. The prediction markets division saw revenue increase by 106%, crossing the $100 million annualized revenue threshold.
Coinbase management highlighted accelerated adoption of its binary options products, with daily traders tripling and daily revenue quadrupling compared to May averages.
The company's strategy to reduce exposure to Bitcoin spot trading volumes appears to be paying off, with 88% of net revenue coming from sources outside of Bitcoin in the second quarter. The stablecoin division also recorded record figures, with an average volume of USDC held in Coinbase products reaching $20 billion.
