Coinbase Shares Soar on Crypto Rally and Regulatory Boost
Coinbase Global (NASDAQ:COIN) shares began trading at $172.75 on Thursday, up from their previous closing price of $160.20.
The surge in Coinbase's stock price is attributed to a combination of factors, including the rally in Bitcoin and crypto prices. Over the past 24 hours, Bitcoin has moved above $70,000-$71,000, while Ethereum gained nearly 20%. This surge in cryptocurrency prices has triggered roughly $3 billion in liquidations and is supporting crypto-exchange shares by potentially improving trading activity, retail engagement, and transaction revenue.
In addition to the positive sentiment from the rally in cryptocurrency prices, regulatory expectations have also improved. President Donald Trump urged Congress to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act after meeting Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and other industry executives. Investors view clearer market-structure rules as a potential reduction in compliance and enforcement risk for Coinbase.
Abu Dhabi's approval of Coinbase's tokenized-securities hub is another positive development for the company. This approval allows Coinbase to arrange investment deals and provide custody and trading services for share-backed digital assets in the UAE, expanding its institutional and tokenization opportunity.
