Coinbase Slumps Amid Regulatory Uncertainty and Pre-Fed Caution
Coinbase stock took a hit on pre-market trading, sliding 4.4% as Bitcoin tumbled roughly 2.9% to around $76,834 and Ethereum declined even more sharply.
The slump came on the day the U.S. Senate was set to hold a procedural cloture vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which would establish clearer token classifications and reduce regulatory uncertainty for crypto businesses.
However, the outcome of the vote remains uncertain, requiring 60 votes to advance. This anxiety, combined with investors' pre-Fed caution ahead of Wednesday's Federal Reserve interest rate decision, pushed them toward a risk-off posture in premarket hours.
Coinbase received some analyst support when Compass Point upgraded it to Neutral from Sell the prior session, raising its price target to $177, still below where the stock had been trading. But this upgrade was tied to Bitcoin's potential cyclical bottom rather than an outright bullish call.
