Coinbase Slumps as CLARITY Act Vote Looms and Fed Rate Decision Nears
Coinbase stock plummeted by 4.4% in pre-open trading on the day the U.S. Senate was set to hold a procedural vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act.
The legislation aims to establish clearer token classifications and reduce regulatory uncertainty for crypto businesses, but its passage is far from certain, requiring 60 votes to advance.
The uncertainty surrounding the CLARITY Act combined with the looming Federal Reserve interest rate decision next Wednesday contributed to a risk-off posture in premarket hours, causing investors to sell off digital assets and pushing Coinbase shares down.
Coinbase's decline was not isolated, as the entire crypto exchange and blockchain equity sector saw losses, while U.S. equity benchmarks also slipped modestly ahead of the Fed meeting.
