Coinbase Slumps on Third Consecutive Quarterly Loss Amid Crypto Market Downturn
Coinbase Global reported its third consecutive quarterly loss due to a prolonged downturn in cryptocurrency markets. The digital-asset exchange saw a 21% drop in transaction revenue, from $764 million a year earlier to $599 million during the April-to-June quarter.
This decline was attributed to investors shunning riskier assets amid uncertainty over US interest rates, geopolitical tensions, and persistent outflows from crypto investment products. The weakness extended a retreat from record highs reached in October.
Coinbase's CEO Brian Armstrong expressed optimism about the Clarity Act, which he believes will provide long-sought regulatory clarity for digital-asset trading platforms. He noted that there are 'a lot of last-minute negotiations happening' and that everyone is invested in getting something over the line.
