Coinbase Soars on Token-Backed Mortgage Product and Growing Regulatory Optimism
Coinbase shares rose 5.1% in the afternoon session following an announcement by the company and Better Mortgage about a nationwide token-backed mortgage product.
The product, which allows eligible borrowers to pledge bitcoin or USDC as collateral for a cash down payment without selling their tokens, is designed to avoid taxable sales.
A jump in Bitcoin prices also contributed to the rally, with Coinbase shares trading near $190.16, up 4.5% from the previous close.
Coinbase's volatility has been a recurring theme, with 54 moves greater than 5% over the last year. However, this move indicates that the market considers the news meaningful but not fundamentally changing its perception of the business.
