Coinbase Stock Plummets After Q2 Revenue Miss
Coinbase's stock price plummeted by 5.12% to $155.20 in premarket trading after the company reported a second-quarter revenue of $1.22 billion, missing the estimated $1.29 billion and declining 18.5% yearly.
The net loss for Coinbase was approximately $359 million, with reduced transaction revenue straining performance due to faltering retail and institutional volumes in the quarter.
Coinbase's CEO Brian Armstrong noted that the company had a record share of the world cryptocurrency trading volume, citing this as competitive superiority. He also emphasized subscription revenues and emerging business entities as areas for growth.
The company is focusing on stablecoins, which are expected to support payments, trading, and other blockchain-based financial services. Additionally, Coinbase is increasing its focus on Base, a blockchain network that could attract more developers, applications, users, and transaction activity.
