Coinbase Stock Price Drops 11% Amid Revenue Decline and Valuation Concerns
Coinbase Global's stock price plummeted by about 11% to approximately US$146 following its latest quarterly earnings report, which showed a significant decline in revenue and net income. The company's cost base continues to outpace crypto volumes and fee income, casting doubts on its profitability prospects.
Despite management's efforts to diversify the business through newer products such as derivatives, prediction markets, and tokenized assets, the results fell short of investor expectations. These new revenue streams are still relatively small, contributing around or above a US$100m run rate each, but they failed to offset the decline in trading volumes.
The company's valuation remains high, with a multiple of over 6x sales, while its trailing twelve-month net income has shifted from a profit of US$2.86b to a loss of US$987.77m. This sharp reversal raises questions about the sustainability of Coinbase Global's growth story.
