Coinbase Stock Price Plummets Amid Weakened Financial Results
Coinbase's stock price plummeted by 12.75% to $123.88 on Friday, marking a significant drop in value.
The decline comes despite a recent legal victory for the company in the US, where a judge largely dismissed a lawsuit against Coinbase. However, the company's weak second-quarter financial results weighed heavily on its stock price.
Coinbase reported a net loss of $359.5 million, missing analyst estimates and marking the third consecutive quarter of declining revenue. The company cited a slowdown in trading activity across the cryptocurrency market as the reason for the decline.
Despite this, Coinbase's CEO Brian Armstrong highlighted that the company is no longer solely reliant on Bitcoin trading, with 88% of its net revenue coming from sources outside of spot trading. Stablecoin and prediction markets have driven growth, with the latter experiencing a 106% increase in volume compared to the previous quarter.
The company maintained an operational record of a 10.3% market share in the global cryptocurrency market, while its stablecoin USDC reached an all-time high of $20 billion in circulation.
