Coinbase Stock Price Rallies on Fed Turn, Despite Revenue Decline

Coinbase stock price surged 7.37% to $187.86 on Wednesday, outperforming the market following Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller's comments that reduced the odds of a September rate hike.

Despite a 19% year-over-year decline in revenue to $1.22 billion and a net loss of $359 million, Coinbase's second-quarter results showed improvement in its competitive position.

The company's crypto trading volume market share hit an all-time high of 10.3%, up from 9.1% in the first quarter, with derivatives market share also reaching a record for the third straight quarter.

However, the arithmetic behind these gains is less promising: as the overall market shrinks, Coinbase's revenue growth lags behind its increasing market share.

With Bitcoin's price at $80,311.25, up 28% since August, volatility has returned to the market, and Coinbase's third quarter may capture some of this renewed activity.
