Coinbase Stock Slides Amid Rising US-Iran Tensions
Coinbase stock took a hit on Thursday, falling by 3.8% in morning trading due to a broad risk-off selloff sparked by rising tensions between the US and Iran.
The conflict escalated with U.S. forces striking Iranian positions in the Strait of Hormuz, prompting retaliatory attacks from Iran on Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
This geopolitical shock, combined with surging bond yields and a simultaneous increase in oil prices, created a challenging environment for high-beta crypto equities like Coinbase.
Despite analyst upgrades from Goldman Sachs and Cantor Fitzgerald, which raised their price targets to $196 and $212 respectively, these positive sentiments were unable to counterbalance the macro-driven risk-off tone.
The broader market reflected this sentiment, with the S&P 500 declining by 0.7%, the Dow Jones shedding 0.5%, and the Nasdaq falling by 1.1%.
