Coinbase Stock Surges 4.5% as Bitcoin Hits $69,000 and Trump Pushes for Clarity Act
Coinbase stock saw significant gains on Wednesday as Bitcoin rallied past $69,000 and Trump's push for the Clarity Act gained momentum. The cryptocurrency exchange's shares rose to $167.36, a 4.5% increase.
This surge in Coinbase's stock follows a historic Bitcoin short squeeze, which triggered liquidations of between $1.1 billion and $2.16 billion on August 19-20. The gains are also attributed to Trump's meeting with crypto executives at the White House, where he called for Congress to pass a 'fair version' of the Clarity Act.
The Clarity Act aims to establish a federal regulatory framework for digital assets and clarify the roles of the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Senate Majority Leader John Thune filed a cloture motion on August 8, setting September 15 as the date for a procedural vote.
