Coinbase Stock Surges 7.5% on Crypto Regulatory Optimism
Coinbase stock surged 7.5% in morning trading due to growing optimism about crypto regulatory clarity in the US. The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act is set for a critical Senate procedural vote on September 15, with key figures predicting it could pass with 60 votes.
Senate Banking Committee Chair Tim Scott stated that the bill has a strong chance of passing in September, and a White House crypto adviser described negotiations as a setup for a comprehensive agreement. This combination of legislative momentum and high-level optimism sent Coinbase shares sharply higher, along with other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Analysts at Compass Point and Goldman Sachs also contributed to the surge, upgrading their price targets on Coinbase stock. Compass Point raised its target from $130 to $177, citing evidence that Bitcoin is recovering from a cyclical bottom consistent with historical patterns. Goldman Sachs separately lifted its price target to $219 from $196, maintaining its Buy rating.
The confluence of these factors created powerful buying pressure, allowing Coinbase stock to outperform the broader market and trade as high as $189.44 intraday.
