Coinbase Stocks Plummet After Second-Quarter Loss
Coinbase shares declined in extended trading after the company reported a second-quarter loss and lower revenue, despite reaching a record market share of 10.3% in global crypto trading volume.
The exchange posted a loss of $1.36 per share, compared to earnings of $5.14 per share in the same period last year. Quarterly revenue fell to about $1.2 billion from $1.5 billion in the prior-year period.
Coinbase's diversification efforts, including growth in stablecoins and derivatives, may provide more recurring revenue, but the quarterly loss shows that this growth has not yet fully offset weaker overall conditions.
