Coinbase Taps Early Bitcoin Builder Rob Witoff as New CTO
Coinbase has appointed Rob Witoff as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO), bringing one of the exchange's earliest builders back into the spotlight. Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase, praised Witoff's contributions to the company's growth, describing him as the driving force behind making Coinbase 'one of the most AI-enabled companies in the world.'
Witoff's storied crypto journey started with his fascination for Bitcoin in 2009 and led him to join the exchange as an engineer in 2014. He noted that when he first joined, the company initially ran on Heroku, supported just a single cryptocurrency, and operated from one codebase with a small engineering team.
Armstrong welcomed Witoff's appointment by stressing his role in shaping Coinbase's engineering organization and AI strategy. According to Armstrong, Witoff has played a major role in the company's success over the years and is now tasked with making Coinbase 'the best place in the world to build.'
